Prof. Dr. Jan Böttcher, Professor of Experimental Immunology at the University of Tübingen and member of the SFB 1479 OncoEscape, has received an ERC Consolidator Grant from the European Research Council for his
project EICO-CODE. ERC Consolidator Grants are among the most prestigious European funding instruments, supporting excellent mid-career researchers in pursuing innovative and high-risk research programs. The project EICO-CODE investigates how eicosanoids—bioactive lipid mediators produced in tissues—regulate CD8+ T cell immunity in cancer and viral infections. By combining eicosanoid mapping with single-cell technologies, gene editing, T cell barcoding, and organ-specific disease models, the project aims to uncover how local tissue environments shape immune responses. By deciphering tissue-specific immune regulation, EICO-CODE will advance the understanding of immune escape mechanisms and contribute to the development of more precise immunotherapeutic strategies, aligning closely with the research goals of SFB 1479 OncoEscape.
